Montessori principles

Trail Lake Montessori is dedicated to the principles of Montessori education - Individual liberty, preparation of the environment, and committed adults. The classroom is a carefully prepared environment for learning as child-sized tables and chairs greet the children as they enter. At Trail Lake, your child comes across a Montessori environment specially designed with manipulative "materials for development" that invite a child to engage in learning activities of their own individual choice.

MONTESSORI PRINCIPLES

 Practical Life

Learn to perform daily tasks such as developing the independence and sense of responsibility of the child and also enhancing physical coordination.

 Sensorial

Develop the sensory-motor capabilities of the five senses through interaction and comparison, i.e., weights and measures. Sensorial education also provides the basis for other areas of development.

 Language & Phonics

Develop language skills in hearing, speech, reading, writing and drama. The phonetic approach using sandpaper letters and the word-building kits takes new reader's basic matching, word recognition and phrase-reading exercises to the point where they can confidently tackle sentences and stories.

 Mathematics

Montessori arithmetic is taught as early as the ages two or three, by giving the child objects to hold, count and manipulate. This helps him or her learn the fundamentals of simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to ensure a good math foundation before the child enters Kindergarten.

 Cultural

Geography, history and science concepts are illustrated by simple experiments, charts, stories and educational excursions.
